The Top 10 Best Zen Koans
What is a Koan?
Merriam Webster defines a koan as: a paradox to be meditated upon that is used to train Zen Buddhist monks to abandon ultimate dependence on reason and to force them into gaining sudden intuitive enlightenment. Some consider it as nonsensical, a question, a story, a riddle, or a test. Oxford dictionary defines it as: A paradoxical anecdote or riddle without a solution, used in Zen Buddhism to demonstrate the inadequacy of logical reasoning and provoke enlightenment. However you choose to define them they can bring great joy and enlightenment.
